Center Overview

Alaska Clinical Research Center, LLC is an educational and research affiliate of Alaska Urological Associates, APC. It is a community based, separate site and entity founded by a four-person urology group dedicated to conducting clinical research trials in urology and gynecology.

Our primary objective is to provide optimal patient care by giving patients access and greater understanding of new therapies

Clinical Research Experience

Our research is specialized to urology and gynecology (Phases II, III, and IV). Therapeutic areas include:

Facility Description

Our study center is located in the Alaska Regional Hospital Medical Plaza, only twelve minutes away from Anchorage International Airport. We have secure drug storage, in-house specimen processing, secure record storage, deep freezer, in building Infusion Pharmacy, and our primary urology office is on the floor below. The dedicated monitor’s space has a panoramic view of the Chugach Mountains, fax, phone and copier access.

Alaska Urological Associates’ primary office has 12 exam/procedure rooms with in-office lithotripsy, in- office TUMT, Urodynamics, Neotonus, and the availability within the building of multi-specialty services. (www.akurology.com)

Investigator Experience

William R. Clark, M.D.
Dr. Clark is a 1975 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and attended the Chicago Medical School for his medical degree. He subsequently served a s a flight surgeon at Elmendorf Air Force Base, receiving Flight Surgeon of the Year recognition in 1981. Dr. Clark completed his residency in urologic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota finishing his fellowship in 1986. He returned to Elmendorf Air Force Base and served as Chief of Urology for the Alaska Air Command. He entered private practice with Alaska Urological Associates in the fall on 1989. He has published articles and presented papers in all aspects of urology practice. He is the editor of Alaska Medicine.

Michael W. Singsaas, M.D.
Dr. Singsaas received his medical degree from the University of Washington in 1970. Following an assignment with the Indian Health Service in South Dakota and Alaska he returned to Urology Specialty Training in 1976. He completed his training at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Medical Center and returned to Alaska in 1980. Since his return he has practiced urologic medicine and surgery exclusively in rural Alaska, Anchorage, and the Indian Health Service.

Lawrence R. Strawbridge, M.D. M.P.H.
Dr. Strawbridge is the most recent addition to Alaska Urological Associates and Alaska Clinical Research Center. He received his MPH in Biomedical Laboratory Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and then received his medical degree from the University of California, Davis in 1984. He completed his internship and residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Before joining us in Alaska, Dr. Strawbridge was in urology private practice, was a member of the transplant program and was Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of South Dakota Medical School.

Robert Allen, MD
Dr Robert Allen has more than 20 years' experience in both adult and pediatric urology. After undergraduate studies at Emory University he received his medical degree from The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He then completed a urology residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. After residency he did a Pediatric Urology fellowship at the renowned University of Minnesota Medical Center. Following training he has held many positions including urology residency training program director and chief of urology at two major Army medical centers. He has spent over fifteen years teaching both urology and pediatric residents. More recently he served as Chief of Urology and Chief of Pediatric Urology at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis Washington.

Staff Expertise

Our staff is trained in CPR, ACLS, EKG, and specialize in urology. The staff is also proficient in venous access and are chemotherapy providers.

Patient Demographics

Captive population of 300,000 people with excellent physician referral.

Other Information

  • We have the flexibility of using a central IRB or our local IRB. Our local IRB is experienced, timely, and organized.
  • We do not try to do all studies but the studies we agree to do, we do well. Timely, often first enrollers usually within the top quintile for enrollment.
  • Our site is known for quality: high retention, minimal data query with high evaluable enrollment, and recent FDA audit without 483.
