Maryland Digestive Disease Research serves the Washington, D.C./Baltimore Metropolitan area. Our main office in Laurel, MD includes a state-of the art outpatient Endoscopy center, separate monitoring rooms, radiological capability, infusion pharmacy capability, venipuncture lab, -20° and -80° freezers, emergency cart with defibrillator, ECG/Pulse Ox monitoring, centrifuge, and temperature controlled locked storage. Our office, located between Washington D.C. and Baltimore, MD offers quick access to BWI, Reagan National, and Dulles International Airport.

Richard Chasen, MD, FACG graduated in 1977 from Howard University College of Medicine. Dr. Chasen specializes in Gastroenterology and Liver disease. Dr. Chasen is currently the Director of Maryland Digestive Disease Research, and has been Principal Investigator on more than thirty clinical trials.
Jeffery Bernstein, MD, FACG graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1984. He is currently the Medical Director at the Ambulatory Endoscopy Center of Maryland and Chief of Gastroenterology at Washington Adventist Hospital.
Jeffrey S. Garbis, MD, FACG graduated from the University of Guadalajara in 1972. Dr. Garbis specializes in Gastroenterology and Liver Disease, has been involved in several research trials including GERD, Hepatitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and has been Principal Investigator on several Irritable Bowel Disease studies. Dr. Garbis is also previous chief of Gastroenterology at Washington Adventist Hospital.
Theodore Young Kim MD, FACG graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1984. Dr. Kim is currently the Chief of Gastroenterology at Laurel Regional Hospital and is also affiliated with Washington Adventist Hospital and Howard County General Hospital. Dr. Kim has been Principal Investigator on several GERD studies and also speaks fluent Korean.
Marvin E. Lawrence II, MD graduated from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in 1996. Dr. Lawrence has been Principal Investigator on a constipation study and Sub Investigator on several other studies. Dr. Lawrence is affiliated with three area hospitals and a published author.
Christopher Shih, MD graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1998. He has been a Principle Investigator on several studies. Dr. Shih is affiliated with three area hospitals and is a published author.
