Facility Description
The University hospital is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, a city situated in central Virginia, approximately 100 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. and 70 miles northwest of Richmond. The hospital is a primary and tertiary care academic center that draws patients primarily from the states of Virginia and West Virginia.
The University has affiliate outpatient sites located throughout the western section of the state equipped to participate in clinical trials, which provides access for a greater number of patients.
The University Health System offers both inpatient and outpatient facilities for the conduct of clinical trials. In fact, several departments have outpatient space dedicated exclusively to conducting clinical trials. The research facilities also include a NIH funded General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). The GCRC offers comprehensive and cost-effective monitoring by experienced and trained research personnel utilizing state-of-the-art medical equipment, access to the metabolic kitchen and its nutritionists and chefs, access to the core laboratory, access to the exercise and sleep laboratories, and access to all hospital services.
