The mission of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), as the nation's first integrated academic health system, is "Creating the Future of Medicine through education, research and the delivery of extraordinary care to the people of the greater Philadelphia region." The Office of Human Subject Research was established in 1995 to promote both the excellence and diversity of clinical trials activity performed at UPHS. The following are among the services provided by the OHSR:

• Market UPHS faculty and facilities to sponsors
• Act as liaison between pharmaceutical and biotech companies and investigators
• Establish master and standard agreements with sponsors
• Review study specific agreements and expedite approval
• Provide educational experiences to coordinators and investigators

  In addition, our Institutional Review Board meets five times per month in order to expedite the regulatory needs of sponsors.

  Faculty of the UPHS have conducted clinical trials for over 50 years. More than 150 faculty are currently involved in clinical trials in all therapeutic areas.
