Center Overview
The Center for Women's Health Research is located
in a Medical School setting. The center is dedicated to clinical
Research studies pertaining to various aspects of Women's Health with
special focus on women of color. Our particular strength is in the
recruitment and retention of minority women, particularly African
American and Hispanic women. The Center has established an excellent
relationship with the surrounding Nashville community with superb
relationships with community leadership.

Clinical Research Experience
The Center conducts research in various areas of Women's Health including but not limited to gynecology, reproductive health, obstetrics behavioral research, nutritional research, endocrinology, breast cancer, gynecologic cancer, menopause, contraception trials as well as various other aspects of women health.
The center for Women's Health Research at Meharry Medical College is the physical and administrative locus for scientists of many disciplines to share insights and methods that deepen understanding of the cellular, molecular, socio-behavioral, and clinical aspects of women's health. Research conducted at the Center focuses on disease that disproportionately impact women of color. The college has undertaken an impressive array of federally-funded studies in reproductive, biology, cancer and behavior research:
Six studies in reproductive biology, reinforced by research cores in biostatistics and endocrine testing. Existing programs in reproductive health, molecular and behavioral sciences, and HIV/AIDS create a natural synergy with the Center's participation in the Southern Community Cohort Studies. For research purposes, the Cohort Studies deliver a target population of 90,000 African Americans and 45,00 non-African American residents in the southeastern region of the United States.
