Investigator Experience

Our Medical Director and CEO, Dr. James Igleburger is a Board Certified general adult psychiatrist with extensive experience in clinical psychiatry as well as clinical research. He earned his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed residency at Akron General Medical Center in Akron Ohio.

Prior to starting ECM&M in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Dr. Igleburger worked for several years as the Medical Director of a large community mental health center in Western Kentucky. He then served as the Executive Medical Director of a dedicated and nationally recognized clinical trials facility, and the Associate Medical Director of the Behavioral Health unit at Lourdes Hospital, also in Western Kentucky. He has been a Principle Investigator and Sub-Investigator in numerous clinical trials involving many therapeutic areas as listed above.

Staff Expertise

Linda Burke, LPN is our Lead Research Coordinator. As a nurse of fourteen years, her background in nursing includes the fields of Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, and Substance Abuse, Psychiatry, and of course, Clinical Research. In addition, Linda is Phlebotomy and IV Therapy certified.

Renee Phillippi is our Office Manager/ Backup Coordinator. Primarily responsible for office operations, Renee is the contact for regulatory documents and budgeting for our clinical research studies. She is an experienced Research Coordinator and is certified in Phlebotomy and IV Therapy as well.

Vanessa Taylor, RMA is our Lab Specialist, Receptionist, and Coordinator-in-Training. Vanessa is a Registered Medical Assistant, highly experienced phlebotomist, and will be certified in IV Therapy in January 2008.

In addition to the above staff, we have two additional experienced research coordinators/psychometricians with whom we work on a part-time basis.

Patient Demographics

Our community is fortunate to have over 15 Home Health Agencies in the area to support a growing number of retirees and a sizeable military population as we are near the largest Air Force base in the country. We utilize our Electronic Medical Records as a recruiting database for our research studies and have also found that advertising works well to bring in potential research subjects. In addition to this, we network with over 250 physicians in the community. Dr. Igleburger speaks on many different topics to senior and civic organizations in the community. These free talks are promoted via radio, flyers and on our website. Dr. Igleburger feels this is a great way to give back to the community while keeping the population informed about our various research projects. ECM&M is the only facility of its kind for approximately 50 miles in any direction. Hence, we enjoy a geographical monopoly on Clinical Trials in many therapeutic areas.

Based on the 2005 Census figures, Fort Walton residents are separated into the following age groups: 65,900 are ages 0-24, 99,083 are ages 25-64: and 25,287 are ages 65+.
