Center Overview

American Clinical Research Services (ACRS) is a dedicated research site that offers world-class facilities in the heart of a targeted population for Orthopaedic research. With a team of 7 Orthopaedic surgeons, 2 Family Practice Physcians, 2 Plastic Surgeons, and supported by 4 Principal Investigators and a Clinical Research Consultant; ACRS' team boasts of a combined 50+ years experience in clinical research, with proven rapid recruitment of a hard-to-find patient population.

Orthopaedics of Steamboat Springs is a full-service Orthopaedic care center, with in- and out-patient facilities, radiology and MRI on site, and access to a complete range of support services. Specialties include total hip replacement (THR), total knee replacement (TKR), shoulder, hand & foot surgery, rehabilitative medicine, sports medicine, arthritis (RA), and pain management.

The Spine Center offers comprehensive services for spine patients, including minimally invasive techniques for both cervical and Thoracolumbar surgery and total disc replacement. Pain management, physical therapy and surgical services are offered via a multi-disciplinary approach.

Yampa Valley Medical Center has been the local hub of comprehensive surgical and diagnostic services since 2000. ACRS offices are right next door, and there is no local IRB, so a central IRB can be used. ACRS investigators have performed many research studies, are NIH Certified, GCP and ICH compliant, and have never had a 483 issued.

Clinical Research Experience

ACRS specializes in sports medicine, surgical implants, orthopaedic traumatology, knee, hip hand, foot, shoulder, surgery, spinal cord injuries, pain management,plastic surgery, and aesthetic Medicine.

Our doctors and staff have a combined 50+ years of research experience, and 3 of our doctors are physicians for the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team -- providing access to world-class athletes, international prestige, and hands-on knowledge of the most current treatments.

Facility Description

ACRS consists of a framework of 3 medical facilities where our doctors practice: Orthopaedics of Steamboat Springs, The Spine Center, and Yampa Valley Medical Center. Steamboat Springs is a winter sports haven and summertime outdoor playground, providing year-round access to a very exclusive population.

We are set up for, and have proven experience in, Phase I, II, III, and post-approval study designs.

Investigator Experience

Henry F. Fabian, Jr., M.D. - Dr. Fabian is Medical Director of Orthopedics of Steamboat Springs. Previously, he was Medical Director at The Ohio Spine Institute at The Center of Orthopedic Surgery in Ohio. He has been a technical/medical consultant for surgical implants, and a team physician for professional sports franchises.

Andreas Sauerbrey, M.D. - Dr. Sauerbrey is Chief of Surgery at Yampa Valley Medical Center, and is a specialist in hand, foot, and shoulder surgery. He was recently named as a Head Physician for the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding. He has been a Magna Cum Laude graduate and distinguished researcher.

Michael Sisk, M.D. - Dr. Sisk has 4 Colorado hospital affiliations and is a Diplomat for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also team physician for the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team, and a Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado Health Science Center. He has also reached the summit of Mt. Everest as a member of the medical team.

Eric Verploeg, M.D. - Dr. Verploeg is a staff Orthopaedic surgeon for Orthopaedics of Steamboat Springs, and a past Fellow in areas important to Orthopaedic research, such as Orthopaedic Traumatology, Knee, and Sports Medicine. Dr. Verploeg has been a Head Physician for the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team for 17 years.

Staff Expertise

American Clinical Research Services has the highest qualified research staff possible. Anna Petri, MD is a dedicated Research Coordinator (research studies are her only duties), and she is also a European MD. Dr. David Stark is ACRS' knowledgeable research consultant who is an accredited college professor and teaches a course of "Foundations of Clinical Research" to corporate and clinical students nationwide. He is also an IRB expert known for fast approval times!
