Center Overview
Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) is an acute care, non-profit community hospital based in Lewiston, Maine. CMMC provides a full range of primary and secondary acute care services on an inpatient and outpatient basis. In addition to being a multi-purpose medical center caring for patients from a broad spectrum of cultural and economic backgrounds, CMMC offers highly specialized services and state-of-the-art clinical facilities. CMMC has four "centers of clinical excellence" – emergency care services (Lifelight of Maine), the Bennett Breast Care Center, oncology services and cardiac care. CMMC serves all of Androscoggin County as well as parts of Cumberland, Kennebec, Franklin, Sagadahoc and Oxford counties.

Facility Description
CMMC is licensed for 266 acute care beds, and offers a full range of specialty services which include cardiac, thoracic, trauma, orthopedics, obstetrics, neonatal, oncology, radiation therapy, nephrology and medical/surgical acute care units. CMMC is the third largest hospital in the state and is designated as one of the only three trauma centers. CMMC established the state’s first full-time 24 hour Emergency Department, and has the first (and still only) accredited chest pain center in Maine. CMMC is also a home base for the Lifelight of Maine, the state's only medical helicopter service.
Lewiston, Maine is located between the major cites of Portland, Maine (35 miles away), and Bangor, Maine (100 miles away). CMMC is about 40 minutes from Portland International Jetport (PWM) and 2 hours and 20 minutes from Manchester Airport (MHT) and 2 hours from Boston's Logan Airport (BOS). Subject volunteers have access to free community bus transportation to CMMC.

Our hospital is involved in more than 40 research studies and clinical trials. The system's reputation for combining the finest clinical care with the latest technology, medical education, and research has enabled it to continually strengthen its medical staff.

Staff Expertise
Our research team is proficient in conducting clinical trials and has extensive experience that includes study coordination, data management, project management, business development, IRB/human subjects’ protection, and budgeting. Research staff members are required to attend CITI Training to ensure that the highest standard of client services are provided and that currently approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines are followed. Our staff provides the expertise necessary to ensure smooth and efficient initiation and conduct of the trial.. We use on-site research SOPs and use the CMMC IRB. Our monitoring facilities are private and accessible for monitors, auditors, or regulatory personnel.

Patient Demographics
Our patient population ranges from pediatrics and adolescents to adults and geriatric men and women. Primarily Caucasian, our site does have a small population of other ethnicities and races. Particular to our site is the large population of French-Canadian descent that resides within our area of the State of Maine.
