Metropolitan Urology Clinical Research is an active division of Metropolitan Urology, PSC. The practice consists of 10 physicians and six advanced registered nurse practitioners in the Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana metropolitan area. The practice, which opened in 1979 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, currently has 14 satellite locations throughout the metropolitan area. The corporate headquarters, including the research department, recently relocated to an innovative 35,000 square-foot state-of-the-art building in 2006. Currently the practice has approximately 100,000 active patient charts; and the providers collectively see an average of 1200 patients weekly. The Metropolitan Urology research department is housed in a 2500 square foot segment of the corporate headquarters with dedicated exam rooms, conference areas, and separate patient waiting facilities. The center has on-site CT scan, ultrasonography, laboratory with full-time phlebotomy, urodynamics, prostate ultrasonography with biopsy, cystoscopy, bladder scanners,-20 degree and -70 degree freezers, centrifuges, secure drug storage, as well as on-site secure document storage and dedicated monitor areas with high-speed ethernet connection.

The medical director, James L Bailen M.D. FACS, is board-certified in Urology and began conducting clinical research in 1995. Debbie Johnson, C.M.A. is the clinical manager of research. She has two full-time research coordinators and a document specialist exclusively for the department of research.

The facility has been involved in multiple phase II and phase III trials for the study of erectile dysfunction, overactive bladder, stress urinary incontinence, osteoporosis secondary to androgen deprivation therapy, prostate intraepithelial neoplasia, prostate cancer treatment and prevention, urinary tract infections, bladder cancer, and interstitial cystitis.

Metropolitan Urology’s clinical research department has a proven ability to fulfill trial commitments with no FDA audits.
