Genova provides its services from a strategically chosen research site on the northwest side of Tucson, across from Northwest Medical Center and other medical facilities. These include doctor's offices, surgery centers, laboratories, x-ray facilities, and physical therapy and rehabilitation programs. Our center has 7 exam rooms, staff offices, a well equipped laboratory with specimen refrigerator and - 20 degree freezer, ECG machines and Crash Cart, a secured room for study medications, dry ice capabilities, a comfortable waiting room and reception area, and two private offices with phone and data connections for monitors.

Our physician investigators:
Leah M. Schmidt, D.O., CPI - Medical Director
Dr. Schmidt has more than a decade of experience with Phase II – IV clinical research studies. She has overseen more than 100 clinical studies for leading pharmaceutical companies – most of them as Principal Investigator. She has worked in the clinical research industry for over 8 years and has maintained quality data by initiating her own quality assurance program. She has established an excellent reputation within the pharmaceutical research industry. Dr. Schmidt received her certification as a Certified Physician Investigator (CPI) in April 2006.
Dr. Schmidt has a doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, MO and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Rockhurst College, Kansas City, MO. She began practicing in 1984 and has been in Tucson since 1987. She is affiliated with the American Osteopathic Association. As a family practitioner her special interests include rheumatology, women’s health and diabetes.
Dale M. Levinsky, M.D. - Associate Medical Director
Dr. Levinsky has served as a principal investigator and sub-investigator for 2 years. She has almost 15 years of clinical experience. She has practiced in Tucson since 2001. Prior to this she practiced in Yucca Valley, California and at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, California. She has special interests in women’s health, dermatology and behavior issues. She also teaches medical students at the University of Arizona.
Dr. Levinsky has a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She also received her Medical Degree at the University of Arizona. She completed her residency in Family Practice and Community Medicine in Merced, California. She is board certified in family practice and is an active member of the American Academy of Family Practice.
Kenneth W. Wilkins, CRA II, CRC - Clinical Research Coordinator Manager
Mr. Wilkins has 36 years of experience in the medical field and more than 12 years of experience with Phase II – IV clinical research studies. He has been involved with more than 75 clinical research studies for leading pharmaceutical companies as a coordinator, site director and clinical research associate. Mr. Wilkins’ high standards for work quality, patient safety and communication are why he continuing to maintain an excellent reputation within the pharmaceutical research industry.
Mr. Wilkins received his medical training while serving as a Hospital Corpsman for 25 years in the United States Navy. His training included Nursing, EKG Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Combat Medicine, and Laboratory Technician. He received his education and certification as an Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman through George Washington University and has served independent of a physician. Mr. Wilkins is an active member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP).
Misty Adriaanse, BS - Certified Clinical Research Coordinator
Clair Roney, CMA – Clinical Research Coordinator
Mrs. Roney has 2 years of clinical research experience as a coordinator conducting Phase II, III and IV clinical trials. She has been involved with approximately 14 clinical trials. Her attention to detail and commitment to the patients, Genova and the sponsors is exceptional.
Mrs Roney received Certification as a Medical Assistant in January 2005. Prior to this time she worked for 10 years as a Special Education Assistant.
Mary Drew, BS – Clinical Research Coordinator
Mrs. Drew has over a year of experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator conducting Phase II and III clinical trials. Previously she worked in the areas of blood donation and drug discovery. Mrs. Drew’s experience working with both medical and scientific staff has brought a commitment to excellence that will add to Genova’s excellent reputation in the Tucson community as well as the Pharmaceutical Research Industry.
Mrs. Drew received her Bachelor of Science in biology with microbiology emphasis and chemistry minor from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
JoAnn Wilkins, AA – Receptionist/Patient Recruiter
Mrs. Wilkins has worked in the clinical research field for more than 6 years as a receptionist and patient recruiter for Phase II, III and IV clinical trials. Her commitment to patient communication creates a welcome attitude to anyone who walks through the doors at Genova.
Mrs. Wilkins received her Associate of Arts from Adam State University and Business degree from Coleman College.

Misty Adriaanse, CCRC, Lead Clinical Research Coordinator
Ms. Adriaanse has been in the medical field for 5 years. She is nationally recognized by many leading pharmaceutical companies as a certified "Top Enrolling Coordinator" and has received enthusiastic reviews from every one of her Clinical Research Associates. She is certified as a Clinical Research Coordinator through the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP).
Cindy Stein - Regulatory
Mrs. Stein has over 10 years in the clinical trial industry. As a Regulatory Administrator she has updated and maintained regulatory documents, assisted Study Monitors, and corresponded with sponsors and Institutional Review Boards. Furthermore, she has assisted Site Directors and Investigators in study management.

With a population of about 900,000 in Tucson and the surrounding areas, the demographics are approximately 61% Caucasian, 30% Hispanic, 3% Native American, 3% African American, and 2% Asian or Pacific Islander. There are almost a dozen retirement and older adult communities in the county, many of which are served by Northwest Medical Center.
