Center Overview
Mission Statement: To create an ideal environment for the conduct of outstanding cancer research and the provision of exemplary cancer related clinical services.
The Josephine Ford Cancer Center (JFCC) is one of the largest cancer centers in Michigan and is consistently ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top cancer centers in the nation. The Center treats more than 14,000 cancer patients each year, and more than 15 percent of all people in southeast Michigan diagnosed with cancer are treated at Henry Ford. Each year, more than 3,000 newly-diagnosed cancer patients visit the center for treatment.
The JFCC is a multidisciplinary program committed to prevention, early detection, treatment and research for cancer care. The Center provides a full continuum of care to patients, from cancer prevention/early detection to specialized care for the terminally ill.
Clinical Research Experience
The Josephine Ford Cancer Center is a nationally recognized leader in basic and clinical research, with more than 140 research protocols in progress for the advancement of cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
A core group of molecular biologists conduct basic research related to cancer with extensive interaction with scientists in fields such as immunology and neurosciences.

Facility Description
The JFCC offers the majority of its cancer services through six regional cancer care sites which are located in Detroit, Dearborn, West Bloomfield, Grosse Point Farms, Clinton Township and the Downriver area. Most patients in Southeast Michigan live within a 20 minute drive from at least one of our sites.
Henry Ford Hospital is a 903-bed tertiary care, teaching and research hospital in Detroit’s New Center area, and is approximately 30 minutes from the Detroit Metro Airport. It provides both inpatient and outpatient facilities, including a dedicated bone marrow transplant unit. Some of the programs available through the JFCC include:

The JFCC Clinical Trials Office is located at the main hospital. This provides for centralization of resources. The JFCC has separate workspace that is available for monitors, equipped with dedicated phone and data lines. A conference room is available for educational and site initiation needs. JFCC also has a centralized research pharmacy dedicated to investigational drug accountability, storage, preparation and dispensing.

Staff Expertise
The JFCC Clinical Trials Office is staffed with case managers (RNs), data managers, regulatory and administrative personnel. These persons are trained and highly skilled in management of research patients. Some of our staff are certified either as Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN) through the Oncology Nursing Society, or as a Certified Clinical Research Professionals (CCRP) through the Society of Clinical Research Associates. The staff also attends regularly scheduled educational sessions both in oncology and clinical trials.
Patient Demographics
The JFCC diagnoses approximately 3,000 new cases of cancer each year. The JFCC treats more than 8,500 cancer patients annually, with 44% of these being minorities. More than 15% of all people in Southeast Michigan diagnosed with cancer are treated here.
Other Information
IRB: The JFCC utilizes the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) IRB for all research activities. Studies conducted through the JFCC fall under the HFHS IRB’s Federal Wide Assurance. Meetings are held every 3 weeks.
Computer Support: The JFCC utilizes an electronic record that captures all health related information across the hospital system. This record includes an ePAC system which allows instant access to imaging studies to evaluate tumor measurements and response to treatment.
