Center Overview
Central New York Research Corporation is a not-for-profit research corporation that manages the non-VA research funds of the Veteran's Healthcare Network Upstate New York at Syracuse. CNYRC and the Research and Development Service at the VA Healthcare Network in Syracuse support a comprehensive medical research program with over 40 researchers, representing all major medical specialties.
The Syracuse VA Medical Center is academically affiliated with the SUNY Upstate Medical University, providing education to medical students, fellows and students in allied health professions.

Clinical Research Experience
Due to a large patient base of over ten thousand veterans at the Syracuse VA, we have been able to participate in a wide
variety of national and international trials, focusing on all aspects of patient care. Our investigators have a wide variety
of experience in pharmaceutical and equipment trials for patients in acute disease states. Additionally, we have
participated in numerous primary and secondary prevention trials. Our computerized patient database and large network of
facilities enables CNYRC and the Syracuse VA to offer assistance with large epidemiological studies. Our investigators have

Facility Description
The Syracuse VA Medical Center is a fully accredited tertiary care facility located at the geographic center of New York State. The medical center provides acute medical and surgical services, state-of-the-art diagnostic services, acute mental health, rehabilitative medicine, intensive care and transitional long-term care. The medical center also offers an array of outpatient and specialty services through two large primary care teams based at the medical center and eight community based outpatient clinics, serving over 10,000 patients in eighteen Central New York Counties.

Other Information
Our IRB:
- The Syracuse Veteran's Medical Center IRB was one of the first ten
Institutional Review Boards to receive National Committee of Quality
Assurance accreditation within the VA system.
- Our IRB has developed mandatory annual training for all
investigators and study personnel. Additionally, research personnel
must complete Good Clinical Practice training, Human Research Protection
Program Training, and obtain certification through the Collaborative IRB
Training Initiative program.
- Our corporation also completes full background screening of
credentials and licensing of all employees.
- A routine IRB compliance audit by the FDA in May 2003 issued no
corrective actions
- Our IRB Administrator, and our IRB chairman have over 10 years
experience, enabling projects to be submitted, expertly reviewed and
approved within five weeks.
- Our site also employs a full time research pharmacist.
