OCCI, Inc. operates three professionally managed clinical research sites in Oregon (Eugene, Portland and Salem). Our physicians have well-established practices in their communities and are highly regarded as specialists in their fields. Staff Expertise

Gina Tiel, MS, Director of Research and President Ms. Tiel has over 14 years of successful clinical trials experience. She has thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical trial protocols, patient recruitment, FDA regulatory requirements, as well as clinical trials marketing and contracts. Ms. Tiel is the driving force behind OCCI and our high clinical research standards, progressive research initiatives and collaborative synergies with physicians, medical institutions, contract-research organizations and pharmaceutical companies.

Jim O’Keefe, Site Manager Mr. O’Keefe has over 10 years of management and clinical trial experience. He directs the clinical operations of our Portland site. Jim is one of the key members of new site evaluation and implementation team. Jim is a stickler for protocol details, always on the look out for new and better methods and procedures. He works hard at recruiting new study patients and is OCCI’s resident computer guru.

Patient Demographics

The Portland metropolitan area is located in the northwestern corner of Oregon at the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. It is about 65 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean on the Oregon-Washington state border. Portland offers excellent health care with providers ranging from primary care physicians and nurse practitioners to highly trained specialists. Oregonians are also receptive to alternative health care. The Portland area is served by a number of health service providers who offer residents affordable options. These providers offer a comprehensive array of health and education services through hospitals, clinics and nationally recognized research centers. The Portland metropolitan area is strategically located, with easy access to West Coast markets and beyond. The area has a healthy, diverse economy with a broad base of manufacturing, distribution, wholesale and retail trade, regional government and business services. Oregon Health & Science University well known for is education, research and patient care is one of the top ten employers in Portland. The Portland area population is over 2 million. There are 12 hospitals, over 2,500 medical clinics, 28 radio stations and 7 television stations in Portland
