Center Overview

The Eye Care Institute began in 1984 with a commitment to serving Louisville area residents in need of quality eye care. Our practice expanded to several offices offering cutting edge procedures that kept pace with advances in the field of ophthalmology.

Twenty years ago we expanded our practice to include clinical trials of new medical devices and medications. This has led to the development of new therapeutic options for our patients and for others with similar medical conditions.

Today The Eye Care Institute provides quality eye care for 1 of every 14 people in the Louisville area. We have a medical records data base of over 110,000 active patients. Our doctors perform over 3000 surgical procedures per year. At The Eye Care Institute, we are dedicated to providing our patients with the best eye care available and we strive to be the ideal clinical trials site.

Clinical Research Experience

The Eye Care Institute has been conducting clinical trials for over 20 years. In the past three years alone we have participated in 15 clinical and surgical trials. Our sponsor and CRO list includes: Allergan, Alcon Research, Bausch and Lomb, the FDA office of Orphan Product Development, ORA, Senju, Kala, Shire, the National Eye Institute, Merck & Co., and Pfizer, just to name a few.

We utilize RealTime – CTMS trial management software. RealTime – CTMS gives us the ability to keep track of trial subjects, study visits and to pay stipends to trial participants. We also use MDI Intellichart™ and Nextech™ scheduling software to easily search for potential subjects by condition, disease and inclusion / exclusion criteria.

Some of The Eye Care Institute’s clinical trial areas include: glaucoma, cataracts, corneal wounds, dry eye syndrome, macular degeneration, and conjunctivitis. We have also expanded our study areas to nutritional studies, diabetes education, clinical surveys and more.

We have a dedicated Clinical Research Department that, with the backing of other Eye Care Institute staff and administration, can conducted multiple trials simultaneously. We are dedicated to providing our clients with a professional and efficient, results driven environment to maximize clinical outcomes.
