Facility Description

Our dedicated research clinic is 8000 square feet, centrally located in Boca Raton, FL, along the densely populated I-95 corridor between Fort Lauderdale to the south and West Palm Beach to the north. The facility is less than 5 miles from Florida Atlantic University, Lynn University, and two hospitals. The surrounding community is diverse in socioeconomic status and ethnicity. Facilities include accommodations for on-site subject/patient screening and training, a suite for communal or individual dining, private examination and consultation rooms, and stations for phlebotomy and intravenous catheter insertion. The space includes rooms dedicated and equipped for vital signs measurement, anthropometrics, food intake and appetite evaluation, as well as a number of other assessments, including intravenous glucose tolerance and euglycemic clamp testing. The research center includes office space for staff, document and files storage, a reception desk and waiting area, and a call center for subject recruitment.

Specialized capabilities include:

  • Dual X-ray absorptiometry for body composition and bone mineral density testing
  • Metabolic cart for evaluation of resting and exercise substrate oxidation
  • Facilities and expertise in the evaluation of insulin sensitivity and pancreatic beta-cell function
  • Fully equipped kitchen for preparation of foods and meals for controlled feeding trials
The facility also contains a separate laboratory space that is equipped for specimen processing and storage. Included in this space are biological freezers (-20 and -80 *C), refrigerated and unrefrigerated centrifuges, a biological safety hood, portable glucose monitor, hemoglobin A1c and lipoprotein lipid analyzers.
