Clinical Research Experience

Under the guidance of Michael Plopper, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of Behavioral Health Services and Principal Investigator for Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital Clinical Research Center, we focus on inpatient and outpatient central nervous system (CNS) trials looking at psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, substance use disorders and Alzheimer's disease. Our study coordinators have advanced degrees in psychology, nursing and other mental health disciplines. The safety and well-being of our participants is our utmost priority.

Facility Description

Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital Clinical Research Center is part of Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital, the largest privately operated psychiatric hospital and the premier provider of psychiatric and chemical dependency services in San Diego County.

With an active medical staff of 40 psychiatrists and an affiliated staff of more than 150 medical staff and allied health professionals, Sharp Mesa Vista provides a full continuum of behavioral health services designed to care for specific patient populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Services include inpatient, outpatient, and partial-hospital programs, as well as chemical dependency detoxification and rehabilitation services. The hospital also provides partial hospitalization and outpatient programs at satellite campuses within the community.

Patient Demographics

Studies are offered for adults with a wide range of psychiatric conditions including depression, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumaticpost-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mild cognitive impairment, substance use disorder, and Alzheimer's disease.

Other Information

The Sharp HealthCare Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews research involving human participants that are proposed for Sharp HealthCare entities. The purpose of this review is to protect the participants' safety, satisfy the obligations of Sharp HealthCare and its affiliated entities, and to maintain responsible research conduct.
