Center Overview

Kansas Nephrology Research Institute (KNRI) is an independent research center founded by Dr. Dennis L. Ross in 2007. Dr. Ross also serves as President and Principal Investigator on many of our trials. KNRI is associated with Kansas Nephrology Physicians, P.A. (KNP), a large nephrology practice, that manages patients locally and at multiple dialysis centers and clinics throughout the state of Kansas. Although the majority of our studies deal with the chronic kidney disease population, we have great interest in pursuing research in other disease states as well as interventional studies for the End Stage Renal Disease population. KNRI uses central IRBs for most studies and collaborates with Frenova Renal Research in conducting ESRD studies at the three local Fresenius dialysis centers.

Facility Description

Kansas Nephrology Research Institute is situated in Wichita, Kansas. The facility encompasses 1448 square feet on the first floor of a medical office building across from one of Wichita's major hospitals. It is situated on the same floor as the nephrology office and is in the same building as one of the three local dialysis centers in which ESRD studies are conducted.

The facility has two patient exam rooms and maintains the following equipment:

  • Pharmacy grade refrigerator
  • Minus 20 degree Celcius freezer
  • Fax/copier/scanner
  • Locked medication cabinets
  • ECG machine
  • Blood Pressure equipment
  • Balance Scales
  • Centrifuge
  • Temperature recorders
  • Air and Refrigerator/Freezer Thermometers

In addition, the research center is in close proximity to the nephrology office which offers renal sonograms, Doppler studies, and DEXA studies for both lean body mass and bone density. The interventional access center for dialysis patients is in the same building and a nearby imaging facility has assisted with study-related MRIs.

Investigator Experience

Dr. Dennis Ross has been a principal investigator in clinical research trials for more than 15 years and is ACRP certified as a principal investigator. Areas of expertise include chronic kidney disease, hypertension and osteoporosis. KNRI has also worked closely with other nephrologists in the Kansas Nephrology Physician group, several of whom have been either principal investigators or sub-investigators on research trials.
