Clinical Research Experience

UCA has participated in clinical trials for over 25 years and completed more than 175 clinical trials successfully. I personally have been involved in clinical trials since 1981, starting with another institution, and I began working with UCA’s Research Department in 2008. In addition to the 28 Urologists, our research department is composed of five full-time research coordinators, who have over 40 years of combined experience in clinical trials. Three of our coordinators are members of the ACRP and certified with them since 2002. I have been a member of the ACRP since 2008.

Facility Description

Urology Centers of Alabama, PC (UCA) is a very active, private urology practice with 24 Board Certified Urologists located in Alabama. We cover all aspects of Urology out of 13 office locations and cover 7 different hospitals. Last year we had over 35,000 office visits. With our large patient base, we are able to see and treat a vast amount of pathology. This also affords us a large patient population to obtain participants for clinical trials. Our center is fully equipped with 2 in-house CT scanners. A complete Radiation Oncology department. 2 in-house ultrasound machine and an in-house lab.

Investigator Experience

Dr. Mark DeGuenther, native of Atlanta, GA, is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his internship in Surgery and residency in Urology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He is a member of The American Medical Association and the American Urological Association.

Dr. DeGuenther clinical interests include minimally invasive treat of BPH, laparoscopic renal surgery, Complex Stone disease and Urologic Cancers. He has been a Physician at Urology Centers of Alabama and been conducting Clinical Research since 1995.

Dr. DeGuenther has completed training in GCP, IATA, and NIH guidelines. He has worked with over 30 well-known Sponsors and CROs. Dr. Deguenther has completed trials in several different Urological Indications.
