Facility Description

Located on North Federal Highway on the campus of Holy Cross Hospital, the Michael & Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center is accessible by public transportation, a few miles east of Interstate 95, and a short drive from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

In addition to participation in clinical trials, we offer Medical Oncology, Hematology, Surgical Oncology, symptom management, genetic counseling, pain management, chemotherapy, infusion therapy and Radiation oncology. Employing highly qualified personnel and state-of-the-art techniques and equipment, our newest treatment system is the Elekta Synergy® S, which features integrated 3D imaging to allow more precise targeting of tumors. Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) permits higher radiation and safely treats tumors near delicate organs. High-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy is ideal for small, clearly outlined and accessible tumors. Another innovation is the MammoSite Radiation Therapy System, which offers breast cancer patients an alternative treatment course of one to five days and minimizes radiation exposure to healthy tissue.

Our beautifully appointed facility offers outpatient services and inpatient services are available at Holy Cross. Our Patient Navigators—professionals with in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system—can make help you quickly schedule appointments, offer information on support groups, similar cases, tests, trials and area programs. They also identify resources for financial assistance, medication needs, home health care, insurance issues, transportation and other concerns.

While not a healthcare professional, a Patient Navigator will leave all medical advice to physicians but the Navigator will encourage patients to investigate all sources of cancer information. Decisions involving medical treatment, or which healthcare provider to use are highly personal and a Patient Navigator will not try to sway patients in one direction or another. In addition, the physician/patient relationship is respected in all cases with the overall goal of improving the patient's health.

As part of our mission to heal the whole person, the comprehensive cancer program at Holy Cross Hospital has an active and vibrant Spiritual and Palliative Care program. Utilizing the skills of our oncology trained chaplain and our Oncology Certified Licensed Clinical Social Worker we are able to utilize a continuum of care services for our patients.

These advisors are able to assist patients and their families to adjust to illness through a supportive individual and/or group counseling program. They offer support in helping the patient manage emotional distress and to work through specific concerns including excessive fear or anxiety caused by disease or its treatment. Family support and counseling is available to help restore balance a home after a cancer diagnosis.

Holy Cross offers daily spiritual services and offers many weekly support groups. These sessions can have beneficial effects on treatment compliance, stress reduction, increased education and provides ample opportunity for healthy discussions regarding negative and positive emotions for all effected by cancer.
