Center Overview

Peninsula Research Associates (PRA) is a clinical research center located in Rolling Hills Estates, California. PRA was established in 1999 by Lawrence D. Sher, M.D. PRA works in partnership with the pharmaceutical industry to conduct year-round clinical research studies with the goal of improving treatments and outcomes for patients suffering from a broad range of conditions. PRA has earned a reputation for quality clinical trials and achieved significant study results in allergy, asthma, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), otitis media and sinusitis treatment.

Peninsula Research Associates is located in Rolling Hills Estates, California. PRA is a fully equipped, up-to-date research facility that offers outpatient services and quality care.

Investigator Experience

Lawrence Sher, M.D.
Medical Director

Dr. Lawrence D. Sher received his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1983. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of California Los Angeles in 1987 and his fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of California Los Angeles. Dr. Sher is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. He holds fellowships with the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and with the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.

Since opening the doors to Peninsula Research Associates in 1999, Dr. Sher has served as the principal investigator for over 200 clinical research trials focusing on conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, hypertension, otitis media, pneumonia and sinusitis. The results of many of these trials have contributed to new medications and devices being placed on the market for the general market.

Staff Expertise

Nadra (Monica) Saad, M.D., FAAP

Dr. Nadra (Monica) Saad received her M.D. in 1976. She completed her residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Saad is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and holds a fellowship with the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has also been PALS Certified. Dr. Saad has been in private practice for over twenty-five years. She joined Dr. Sher’s medical practice in 1995 and then began working for Peninsula Research Associates in 1999. Dr. Saad has been the sub-investigator for over 200 clinical trials at PRA. Her clinical expertise includes studies focused on allergic rhinitis, asthma, chronic bronchitis, otitis media, pneumonia, sinusitis, and vaccinations.

Jordan Wertheimer, CCRC
Site Manager

Jordan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from the University of Arizona in 2011. He also received his California Phlebotomy Technician Certification. Jordan has worked on several asthma trials under the guidance of Dr. Sher. His clinical responsibilities including patient recruitment as well as performing study procedures. Prior to his employment at Peninsula Research Associates, Jordan worked as a student athletic trainer at the University of Arizona’s Kasser Medical Treatment Center for three years. Jordan developed skills in the treatment, rehabilitation and maintenance of sports related injuries. He also gained experience working with electrical stimulation, ultrasounds, phonophoresis, deep muscle stimulation, Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (SASTM), traction, OSHA, and blood borne pathogen care. Jordan also completed an internship in the Department of Pathology at Marin General Hospital in Larkspur, California. Under the guidance of Dr. Paul Wasserstein, Jordan dissected donor organs and created tissue sample cassettes in order to analyze the cells microscopically.

Debbie Cappy, CCRC
Regulatory and QC

Debbie Cappy began working with Dr. Sher in 1991 and has played a key role in over 70 clinical research trials. Debbie’s areas of expertise include allergic rhinitis, asthma, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, infectious diseases, otitis media, pain management, sleep disorders, and vaccinations. Debbie received her clinical research coordinator certification from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals in 2006.
