CenterWatch Acquired by Founder Ken Getz
BOSTON—May 5, 2010—Ken Getz, the founder of CenterWatch—an industry-leading clinical trials information services company—along with private equity investors has purchased the company from Jobson Medical Information. The acquisition was completed in April.
Getz founded CenterWatch in 1994 and established the company as a leading provider of operating and business information on the $40 billion global clinical trials industry. Getz sold the company to the Thomson Corporation in 1998. CenterWatch was subsequently sold to Jobson Medical Information in 2007.
“I am very excited to have CenterWatch back,” said Getz. “We have ambitious plans to modify and improve our print- and web-based publications and services while adding innovative new offerings to assist investigative sites, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, contract research organizations and other service providers in being better informed, more effective and successful. The company is focusing on providing the best analytical, data-driven and timely coverage possible and on offering unrivaled access and reach to key professional and patient communities that comprise the global clinical research enterprise.”
This month, CenterWatch anticipates listing more than 12,000 active clinical trials seeking study volunteers, and receiving more than 115,000 unique visitors to its clinical trial, research center and career opportunity listings online. The May issue of the The CenterWatch Monthly newsletter features widely anticipated results and analysis of the 2010 Survey of Investigative Sites in Europe. More than 900 European investigative sites from 30 countries responded to the survey and rated Abbott Laboratories, Boehringer Ingelheim, GlaxoSmithKline, Novo Nordisk and AstraZeneca as top drug development sponsors to collaborate with on clinical trials.
In addition to being an investor in, and board member of several companies, Getz is also the Chairman of CISCRP—a nonprofit organization that he founded to educate and raise public awareness of the clinical research enterprise—and a Senior Research Fellow at the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development where he studies R&D management and operating models, investigative site, outsourcing, and study volunteer trends and policies.
