Trial Information
Summary: Opioid-induced constipation
The Millennium Pain Center is looking for potential subjects to
participate in a clinical research study of an investigational drug
vs. placebo (an inactive substance) for opioid induced constipation
in people being treated with prescription opioids for chronic
non-malignant pain. Various types of painful conditions like
osteoarthritis, back pain and neuropathic pain (postherpetic
neuralgia and diabetic neuropathy) may be treated with opioids such
as codeine, tramadol, morphine, and hydrocodone. Constipation is a
common side effect of opioids.
This study lasts approximately 8 weeks and has 6 visits. Study
related drugs (may include placebo), study related physical
examinations and lab work are provided to participants in this
study. Compensation is available to qualified subjects for each
completed visit for time and travel.
Subjects interested in this study should:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a history of chronic, non-malignant pain for at least 2
months
- Be taking oral, transdermal (skin patch), IV or injection
opioids (narcotics) on a regular basis
- Have a history of constipation due to opioid use for at least 1
month
One of our staff will be happy to make an appointment for you to
discuss this research study in more detail.
