Summary: Controlled comparison of study drug and placebo in patients with severe sepsis.

People with severe sepsis are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Are male or female at least 18 years of age
  • Confirmed diagnoses of severe sepsis

You will not be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Have extensive third degree burns
  • Are pregnant, intend to become pregnant or are breastfeeding a child
  • Patients currently receiving immunosuppressive therapy
  • Patients expected to be treated with endotoxin-removal devices
  • Have participated in another research study within the last 30 days
