Summary: Do you have PCOS? Do you have a sister or daughter who is 8-12 years old?

We invite girls who can be described as follows to be in a research study:

8-12 year old girl
Sister or daughter of a woman with polycystic ovary syndrome
Has not started having periods
Generally healthy

Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine is conducting a research study looking into the early markers for PCOS. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a cause of irregular periods and high male hormone levels. Extra male hormones in women can cause acne and extra facial and body hair.

Girls who participate in the study will receive the following:

Free diabetes screening
Free cholesterol check
Consultation with a board-certified dietician
Reimbursement for transportation expenses
Compensation for time and effort

This study is funded by the National Institutes of Health and is being conducted at Children’s Memorial Hospital under the direction of Dr. Wendy Brickman.
