Summary: Have you AND a family member ever been DEPRESSED?

Genetics of Recurrent Early-Onset Major Depression

We want to learn more about how major depression is inherited. We are looking for families where 2 or more siblings have had major depression.

This is a multisite nationwide study sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health.

Participants will be paid $75 for completing medical and psychiatric interviews and giving a small blood sample. Interviews and blood draws can be done in your own home. You do not need to live nearby.

Patient Inclusion Criteria =

  • are 21 years or older
  • have had 2 or more episodes of depression
  • have had depression by age 30
  • have a brother, sister or parent who has had depression that began by age 40

Patient Exclusion Criteria =

  • do not have bipolar disorder or an immediate family member with bipolar disorder
