Trial Information
Summary: NCIC CTG MAP.3 A Phase III Randomized Study of Exemestane vs Placebo in Postmenopausal Women at Increased Risk of Developing Breast Cancer
You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have a high Gail score (which means that you have an increased risk for developing breast cancer), and you and your doctor have decided that Tamoxifen treatment is not right for you. About 4,560 women from the United States, Canada and other countries will take part in this study. The purpose of this study is to compare the investigational drug exemestane to placebo (identical pill that contains no active medication) in terms of reducing the occurrence of invasive breast cancer. Other objectives are to make comparisons in regard to other clinical and laboratory factors related to breast cancer, other kinds of cancer, heart problems, menopausal symptoms, quality of life, and side effects. Your treatment on this study is expected to last for 5 years. If you discontinue study treatment earlier than 5 years, your medical condition will still be followed for a minimum of 5 years after randomization.
