Trial Information

Summary: A Compassionate Use Study of Methylnaltrexone in Patients with Opioid-Induced Side Effects

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have an advanced medical illness and you are taking narcotic (opioid) medication for the treatment of your pain. These opioids are making you constipated, and standard treatments that act to treat constipation have not helped you to have regular bowel movements. You have participated to the two previous Methylnaltrexone (MNTX) studies (IRB# 02189 & IRB# 03087) and you wish to continue taking MTNX. The purpose of this study is to provide MNTX on a compassionate use basis in an effort to lessen the side effects of opioid medications. Your participation in this study is expected to last from one week to several months, depending on your response to treatment.
