Summary: A Phase II Evaluation of Lapatinib (GW572016) (NCI-Supplied Agent, NSC #727989, IND #70,252) in the Treatment of Persistent or Recurrent Epithelial Ovarian or Primary Peritoneal Carcinoma [GOG-0170-G]

This research study is for women who have ovarian or primary peritoneal cancer that has failed to respond to the initial chemotherapies given to them and has re-grown after surgery, radiation therapy, or other forms of treatment. The purpose of this study is to find out what effects the experimental drug lapatinib (GW572016) has in treating this type of cancer. All study participants will receive the study drug lapatinib.

Patient Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:

You may be eligible for participation if you
-are 18 years of age or older
-have been diagnosed with recurrent or persistent epithelial ovarian or primary peritoneal carcinoma
-have had one prior platinum-based chemotherapeutic regimen
-meet additional criteria

You cannot particpate if you
-are pregnant or breastfeeding
-are currently taking antibiotics for an infection
-have had previous treatment with the study drug lapatinib
-are HIV-positive and are receiving combination anti-retroviral therapy
