Summary: Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation with a Novel Conditioning Therapy Helical Tomotherapy, Melphalan, and Fludarabine in Hematological Malignancies
You have/your child has been asked to participate in this research study because you have/your child has one of the following diseases:
A. Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML)
B. Myelodysplastic syndromes with intermediate or high-risk disease
C. Granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma) with or without bone marrow involvement
D. Mixed lineage leukemia if the induction therapy was directed predominantly against AML
The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the safety and usefulness of Helical Tomotherapy (HT) plus the chemotherapy drugs fludarabine and melphalan as a preparative treatment for bone marrow transplantation from related or matched unrelated donors in the treatment of AML and AML subtypes. The treatment will last one or two months. After treatment is over, your/your child’s medical condition will be followed indefinitely.
