Summary: Talk Therapy for the Treatment of Bipolar Disorder Symptoms in Youth
Condition: Pediatric Bipolar Disorder
Study Description: Research has shown that
children of bipolar parents are at higher risk for developing a
bipolar disorder than others. This study will examine the efficacy
of educational support vs cognitive behavioral therapy in the
treatment of bipolar disorder symptoms. Eligible patients who
satisfy screening criteria will be seen for weekly or biweekly
sessions with a therapist. Clinical care and evaluations done as
part of the study will be provided at no cost to the
participant.
Patient Inclusion Criteria: Participants will
include boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17, who are
experiencing mood difficulties like, mood shifts, sadness and
elation and have at least one parent diagnosed with bipolar
disorder and another relative with a mood disorder.
Patient Exclusion Criteria: Participants will
