Summary: Adolescent Depression

Has your child been feeling down, sad or irritable lately?

The following symptoms may signal Major Depressive Disorder: Depressed/Irritable Mood Lack of interest in Activities Poor Concentration Low Self-Esteem Appetite or Weight Change Sleep Problems Withdrawal From Friends/Family Low Energy Level.

UTMB is seeking volunteers ages 12-17 with current symptoms of major depression to participate in a study to evaluate the effectiveness of a drug in treating adolescents.

6 month open-label extension for those who complete the double-blind study. Offices located in Clear Lake and Galveston.

Study Criteria: 12-17 years old

Symptoms of or diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. No stimulant use in past 6 months or past hospitalization due to suicide attempt.
