Summary: Why Do My Legs Hurt? You may have Peripheral Arterial Disease
You may be eligible to participate in a research study of an
investigational drug therapy.
If you:
- Are between 40 and 78 years of age, and
- Have leg pain when walking that limits your activity
You may:
- Be eligible to participate in a medical research study
- Help others in the future, by participating in medical
research
Eligible participants will receive:
- Study-related medical care
- Study medication
- Laboratory work and evaluations
- Lifestyle counseling
All at no cost.
What is peripheral arterial disease (PAD)?
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a problem with blood flow
in the arteries. When you have disease in your arteries, they
become narrow or blocked, This is called arthrosclerosis. When
blocked arteries affect the legs, the problem is called peripheral
arterial disease. High cholesterol levels, high blood pressure,
smoking, and diabetes can cause atherosclerosis. For many people,
the first noticeable symptom of PAD is a painful cramping in the
legs while walking.
