Trial Information

Summary: Polycystic kidney disease registry

Polycystic kidney disease(PKD) is a disease of the kidneys and other organs, which is inherited in several different forms. The disease leads to end stage renal disease (ESRD) in many patients. ESRD can be treated by dialysis (an artificial kidney machine) or transplantation. There are about 600,000 patients with PKD in the United States and patients with PKD make up about 10 percent of all ESRD patients. PKD patients from all over Virginia and the surrounding states come to the University of Virginia Health System for evaluation and treatment.

In 1999 we began a registry of PKD patients so that we could inform those interested of Clinical Trials in PKD that might be available at UVA Health System. Some of you are already listed in our registry.

As you may know, there are some new investigational medications for PKD, and we are interested in participating in these trials. We are also part of the Mid-Atlantic Consortium for PKD, centered at Johns Hopkins University. We are now updating our list or registry of patients and families with PKD so that we can send information of interest about this disease and clinical trial opportunities. If you would like to be included in our registry, please complete the form below. If you are in our registry already, your name will remain active unless you write to us to inactivate it. When new treatments arise or if opportunities for participation in research studies become available, you will be contacted.
