Trial Information
Summary: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in the Treatment of Major Depression
This study is a trial of an outpatient, non-medication,
non-invasive investigational treatment called Transcranial Magnetic
Stimulation (TMS). TMS applies a magnetic field to the brain for a
brief period of time. We are testing whether TMS can treat major
depression.
Participants will be randomly assigned to either active rTMS or
sham (placebo) rTMS. If patients receive sham and do not improve,
they have the option of receiving real TMS.
Study Criteria:
- Patients must be ages 21-70, with current Major
Depression.
- The study is for patients for whom medications have not worked
or have not been tolerated.
Some exclusion criteria are:
- Prior treatment with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) or
Vagal Nerve Stimulation (VNS)
- Metal objects in head
- Pregnancy/Breastfeeding
- Neurological Disorder
- History of Seizure or Stroke
