Summary: Double-Blind, Phase II, 26-Day Study Evaluating The Efficacy of Mifepristone Versus Placebo in Treating Depression and Psychosis (HPA III Study).
The Stanford University Depression Research Clinic is now
accepting volunteers to participate in an investigational
medication treatment trial for people with depression and
psychosis. Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 85, and
you must be experiencing feelings of depression for at least 2
weeks prior to study entry. Study participants will receive
treatment with an investigational medication, psychiatric and
neurocognitive testing, MRI scans, laboratory tests, EKG's and
a physical exam. We are also looking for healthy control subjects
who have no psychiatric diagnosis. You will be paid $400 for your
time.
Participation is confidential.
Inclusion Criteria:
Diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder, Psychotic Major
Depression OR Healthy Subjects with no Psychiatric Disorder.
Between 18 - 85 years of age. Must not be currently pregnant,
breast feeding or planning to become pregnant during the study.
Must be on a stable dose of all psychiatric medications for at
least one-week prior to entering the study.
Exclusion Criteria:
ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) in the 6 months prior to the
study. Abuse of drugs or alcohol in the 6 months prior to study.
Unstable or untreated medical disease Currently pregnant.
