Trial Information
Summary: Genetic Determinants of Peripheral Arterial Disease
The role of genetics in determining whether patients with
coronary artery disease also have circulation problems in the legs
needs to be evaluated. The purpose of this research study is to
identify genetic factors in peripheral arterial disease, study the
interaction between environmental and genetic factors in the
incidence and progression of the disease, and identify factors that
cause differences in the severity of the vascular disease in
different parts of the body. This study will involve evaluating
2,000 patients, 1,000 at Mount Sinai Medical Center and 1,000 at
Stanford University over the course of five years. This study
involves three questionnaires, measuring blood pressures in the
arms and legs and the collection of blood samples for coagulation
factors, plasma, and DNA analysis. It takes approximately 2 hours
to complete this study.
