Summary: Stanford University Bipolar Disorders Clinic: Ketogenic Diet in Bipolar Depression
Some patients with Bipolar Disorders experience depressive
episodes despite their current treatment. The ketogenic diet is an
epilepsy treatment which could be helpful to some patients with
bipolar disorders. However, it is not known whether this form of
treatment can relieve the symptoms of bipolar depression. In this
study, after a 3-day initiation period in hospital, over the next
12 weeks the patient will be instructed on using the ketogenic
diet. Patients will be monitored weekly while on this diet.
