Summary: ECOG: E1Y97: Mapping Interactive Cancer Susceptibility Loci

Patient

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have/have had cancer of the breast, prostate, lung or colon that has been confirmed by tests on tumor specimens, and you have a sibling who has/have had the same type of cancer.  The purpose of this study is to study pairs of siblings who have or have had cancer to determine the role of various genetic factors to see whether there is any relationship between any of these and the risk of developing cancer. Your biologic parents, if both are alive, may be asked to participate in this study also, to further identify genes that contribute to the inherited risk of cancer.  Your participation in this study is expected to last until the study has reached its target accrual of 1000 sibling pairs.

Parent

You have been asked to participate in this research study because your child/children has/have had pathologically-confirmed cancer of the breast, prostate, lung or colon.   The purpose of this study is to study pairs of siblings who have or have had cancer to determine the role of various genetic factors to see whether there is any relationship between any of these and the risk of developing cancer. Studying samples from biological parents, when available, will help identify biological factors that may contribute to cancer risk.  Your participation in this study is expected to last 5 years.

Sibling

You have been asked to participate in this research study because your sibling has cancer of the breast, prostate, lung or colon that has been confirmed by tests on tumor specimens, and you have/have had the same type of cancer.  The purpose of this study is to study pairs of siblings who have or have had cancer to determine the role of various genetic factors to see whether there is any relationship between any of these and the risk of developing cancer.  Your biological parents, if both are alive, may be asked to participate in this study also to further identify genes that contribute to the inherited risk of cancer. Your participation in this study is expected to last until the study has reached its target accrual of 1000 sibling pairs.
