Summary: CT Follow Up for Detection of Second Tobacco-Related Cancer

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have had a lung or head and neck cancer that is usually related to prior tobacco use, have received treatment with the intent to cure this cancer, and are less than 75 years of age. The purpose of this study is to determine whether low-dose, non-contrast, spiral computed tomographic (CT) examination of the lungs performed in the follow-up of lung, head and neck and esophageal cancers is effective in detecting lung cancer at an early, treatable stage. Another purpose is to determine the frequency of pulmonary nodules (small lumps in the lungs) represent malignant disease. Another purpose is to improve post-treatment follow-up and screening programs for subjects who have been treated for lung or head and neck cancer. Your participation in this study is expected to last for 3 annual follow-up tests. If a lung cancer is discovered during the study, you will be followed for a minimum of ten years longer.
