Summary: A Multicenter, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Fixed-Dose, 8-week Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Lamotrigine in the Treatment of Bipolar Disorder Patients Currently Experiencing a Major Depressive Episode.
Study Description
This study is evaluating how safe and effective Lamotrigine is to
treat Bipolar Depression. Lamotrigine has not yet been approved for
the treatment of Bipolar Depression. However, it is an approved
medication, on the market, to prevent seizures. Participants will
have a 50/50 chance of receiving Lamotrigine or Placebo for a total
of 8 weeks. There are a total of 10 visits. Participants are paid
$50.00 for each completed visit. You must be living in San Diego,
CA and plan on being available for 10 continuous weeks.
Study Criteria
Participants must be:
- at least 18 years old
- diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder
- currently Depressed for at least 8 weeks
- able to discontinue the use of all other psychiatric
medications
Participants must not have been treated with Lamotrigine
previously.
