Summary: A Phase II study to evaluate safety and efficacy of an investigational drug in patients with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This drug is involved in the blockage of the T cells in the immune system, which is involved in MS. This is a 10-month, double-blind, placebo controlled research study with 9 intravenous
infusions.
Study Description
This Phase II research study will evaluate the safety and
efficacy of an investigational drug in patients with Relapsing
Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
This drug is being used for the first time in MS. Studies
suggest that this drug is involved in the blockage of the T cells
in the immune system, which is involved in MS. This is a 10-month
double-blind placebo-controlled research study with 9 intravenous
(into the vein) infusions.
Study Criteria
Female and male volunteers 18-55 years old with Relapsing
Remitting MS who have been unable to tolerate or have never been
immunomodulating therapy to treat the MS (For example: interferons
(Avonex, Betaseron) glatiramer acetate (Copaxone),
mitoxantrone).
Cannot participate if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy
and must practice 2 forms of birth control. Volunteers cannot have
had an exacerbation within 2 months of enrollment. Must have had
one relapse over the past 2 years. Tests and evaluations will be
paid for by the study. Must meet additional eligibility
criteria.
