Summary: Effects of Exercise Intensity on Glucose Disposal in Overweight Adults.
UVa Health System, General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) seeks healthy, overweight women and men, ages 18 to 35, for research study.
The purpose of the study is to determine how different intensities of bicycle exercise effect blood sugar. This study involves 2 outpatient screening visits: (1) a health history and physical examination (45 minutes) and (2) a body fat analysis and maximal performance bicycle test (approximately 2 hours). Four separate inpatient (overnight) admissions (control, low, moderate or high intensity exercise) in the GCRC are required where blood draws, a bicycle test, and an oral glucose tolerance tests will take place. You will be admitted to the GCRC at 8 PM on the evening prior to testing. You will finish with each admission in the early afternoon of the following day.
Compensation for study completion is $400.00.
