Summary: Participants aged 8 to 21 years who have had a traumatic brain injury for growth hormone study
UVa Health System, Department of Developmental Pediatrics is conducting a study to evaluate the growth and development of children and adolescents who are growth hormone deficient and growth hormone normal following a TBI. In addition, the study will monitor the neuropsychological recovery of both groups of children.
Children and adolescents ages 8 to 21 years are eligible to participate.
What is required: There are two parts of this study. For the first part, participants will have up to three overnight admissions to U.Va.s General Clinical Research Center where their growth hormone levels will be measured. Participants who are growth hormone deficient will be offered to participate in the second part of the study, which includes one year of controlled growth hormone treatments. Participants who are not growth hormone deficient will be followed for a year. Each visit to the GCRC will last approximately 16-18 hours. The study will last up to two years.
- Participants will receive $150 per overnight admission. - Study related exams, growth hormone treatments, blood tests, and hospital stays are provided free of charge.
