Summary: Children and Adolescents with Hodgkin's Disease Sought for Research Study

UVa Health System, Cancer Center seeks children, adolescents, and young adults aged 0-21 with low-risk Hodgkins Disease for a research study.

Researchers are conducting may result in difficult effects (late effects) later in life. Researchers think that if some participants can be treated with less intense therapy, those participants might have fewer of these bad effects later in their lives. In the course of the study, participants will receive biopsies, physical exams, blood and urine tests, tests of thyroid, heart and kidney function, chest Xrays, CT scans, and PET or Gallium scans. All participants will receive at first 3 21-day cycles of AV-PC (Doxorubicin/Adriamycin (a), Vincrestine (V), Prednisone (P), Cyclophosphamide (C) ). AV-PC will be given by vein or central line and by mouth. Participants whose disease goes away after these three cycles will have no more treatment and will be watched closely to see if their disease returns. Participants whose disease does not go away will have radiation therapy 4 weeks later. Participants whose disease gets worse will be taken off study and have other options offered to them. Participants whose disease goes away at first but whose disease returns later will be asked to join the relapse part of the study.

No compensation is available for participation in this study.
