Summary: Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
We are conducting a clinical research study for volunteers diagnosed with Diabetes (Type 1 or 2) experiencing painful neuropathy for at least 6 months and no longer than 5 years. This study tests the safety and effectiveness of 3 doses of an investigational drug compared to placebo and pregabalin (Lyrica).
Patient Inclusion Criteria:
Age 18+
Diagnosed with Type1 or 2 Diabetes
Presence of pain due to Diabetic peripheral neuropathy for at least 6 months and not longer than 5 years
Hemoglobin A1C of less than or equal to 8%
Patient Exclusion Criteria:
- No presence of other painful conditions that could effect the assessment of the pain due to DPN such as peripheral vascular disease, amputations (other than toe), osteoarthritis, polyradiculopathy, intermittent claudication, etc.
Allergic or adverse reaction to gabapentin (Neurotin) pregabalin (Lyrica) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).
- No current evidence of gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, or seizure disorder
- No drug or alcohol abuse
- No investigational drug within 30 days or an unrelated illness
- No investigational drug within 6 months for DPN
- No pregnant or lactating women
If eligible, you will receive investigational drug and study-related medical care at no cost. Reimbursement for time and travel may also be available.
