Summary: Acute Repetitive Seizures (ARS) - Adults and minors

People with episodes of acute repetitive seizures are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by New York University Medical Center.

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you or your child:

  • Is 2 years of age or older
  • Has been diagnosed with epilepsy
  • Has experienced at least 2 episodes of repetitive seizures in the past year

You may not participate in this study if you or your child:

  • Has a history of consistent progression from episodes of ARS to status epilepticus, in which the brain is in a state of persistent seizure
  • Has not responded to treatments with benzodiazepine medicines or is allergic to diazepam
  • Has glaucoma
  • Has a history of drug or alcohol abuse
  • Has a neurological disease, psychiatric disease, or severe mental abnormality, or has another condition including cardio-respiratory, kidney or liver condition, or any condition that affects the absorption, distribution, metabolism, or excretion of diazepam
  • Is pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to become pregnant during the study
  • Has participated in another research study within the last 30 days
