Summary: A Randomized Trial of Temsirolimus and Sorafenib as Second-Line Therapy in Patients with Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma Who Have Failed First-Line Sunitinib Therapy

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have advanced or metastatic (spread to other organs) cancer of the kidney(s) and your disease became worse while you were being treated with Sunitinib (Sutent). The purpose of this study is to compare the safety, side effects and effectiveness of Temsirolimus (Torisel®) and Sorafenib (Nexavar®) in treating advanced kidney cancer when given after treatment with Sunitinib (Sutent). Your participation in this study is expected to last for up to 24 months or until your disease condition gets worse, you develop unacceptable side effects, or you decide you no longer want to participate. After your treatment is complete, your medical condition will be followed indefinitely.
