Trial Information
Summary: Outpatient Treatment Research for Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa
If your adolescent son or daughter is underweight, preoccupied with food, weight or shape, your family may be eligible to participate in this study.
The aim of the study is to learn more about the effectiveness of family therapy and fluoxetine in returning affected adolescents to physical health and preventing significant long-term physical and psychological complications.
Family therapy (16 1hr. Sessions over 9 months), medication (fluoxetine or placebo over 15 months) and medical monitoring over the 15 months of active study participation are provided at no charge. Follow-up assessments will be carried out at the end of family therapy and two 6 month intervals thereafter, for which the family will be paid $25 each time.
