Trial Information
Summary: Treatment of Acute Migraine in Patients with Stable Vascular Disease - Adults
People that suffer acute migraines with vascular disease are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by North Shore – LIJ Medical Center.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:
- Are at least 18 years of age
- Have a history of migraine headache with or without aura
- Have been diagnosed with stable vascular disease
You may not participate in this study if you:
- Have difficulty distinguishing your migraine headache attacks from tension headaches
- Have a history of predominantly mild migraine headache attacks or migraine headaches that usually resolve spontaneously without treatment in less than 2 hours
- Have more than 15 headache-days (either migraine or other headaches) per month or have taken medication for acute headache on more than 10 days per month within 3 months
- Are taking cardiovascular or migraine prophylactic (medical procedure whose purpose is to prevent) medication where the prescribed daily dose has changed during the last 3 months
- Were more than 50 years old when migraine headaches started
- Have congestive heart failure, unstable angina, heart attack, transient ischemia (TIA), stroke, or any heart surgery
- Have uncontrolled diabetes, HIV disease, or significant pulmonary, kidney, liver, endocrine, or other systemic disease
- Have a history of gastric or small intestinal surgery (including gastric bypass surgery or banding), or have a disease that causes an abnormality in digestion.
- Have undergone major surgery, or donated or received any blood products
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to become pregnant during the study
- Have participated in another research study within the last 30 days
