Summary: Premenstrual Syndrome using pet scan

Women ages 18-40 with premenstrual syndrome (severe physical and psychological symptoms before the menstrual period) are wanted for a 3-4 month research study of brain activity during the menstual cycle entailing:

  • questionnaires
  • two (2) positron emission tomography (PET) brain scans
  • one (1) MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) study

PET scan is an examination involving obtaining pictures when detection of radiation from the release of tiny particles emitted from a small safe amount of a radioactive substance is given to the subject by intravenous catheter. An MRI scan uses magnetism, radio waves and a computer to produce picutres of the brain. Risks are those related to having a blood test, having an intravenous catheter inserted into the arm, (bruising and rarely infection0 and the small amount of radiation associated with the PET study, There are no specific benefits to you related to participating in this study.

You will receive $200 per PET scan visit for a total of $400 for participation in this study.
